What You Should Know About Moving To Lincoln, Nebraska

Written By: Harley Kruger – Front Desk Associate  Residence Inn, Lincoln Nebraska

Thinking about moving to Lincoln? Our Kinseth Hospitality Companies Residence Inn, located in Lincoln Nebraska, has the inside scoop about the town, and is set to answer any questions you might have while you get settled. Here's what they have to say about the happiest city in America.

As a reputable extended stay hotel in Lincoln, many of our Residence Inn guests make a temporary home out of our hotel, whether it is for relocation, business, displacement, or just time away. We know relocating to a new city or even just a new environment can be difficult, but we are here to make that transition as easy and stress-free as possible. Our staff appreciates the opportunity to create relationships with not only our guests who are staying for lengthy periods of time, but even their four legged family members—we are pet friendly!

Lincoln, Nebraska is rated the #1 Happiest City in America. What has everyone smiling? Add job satisfaction, in combination with our low cost of living, and small town Midwestern city feel, and you might be on to something.

Our fine city has some of the lowest costs of living AND unemployment rates. The Midwest average for a two-bedroom apartment is as low as $625. Median family income ranges at about $50,000 and let’s not forget about those bill’s, bill’s, bill’s; Electric average: $90, Gas Average: $100, Water average: $40, Cable and Internet average: $100.

With low finance costs like that there’s some room left for recreation and entertainment. In a college town like ours there is always something to do! Some of our best sports bars and pubs include Mulligan’s and The Press Box, where you may enjoy watching your favorite teams on the many HDTV’s, playing pool, shuffleboard, or Big Red Keno during happy hour. You could also take a stroll in the Haymarket district to a local Farmer’s Market.

Personally my favorite way to spend a Saturday or Sunday relaxing is picnicking at Lincoln’s best public Botanical garden “Sunken Garden’s” which includes a healing, perennial and annual garden. Moving to Lincoln Nebraska or not, there are plenty of attractions that are worth a visit or two like museums, national parks, and children's zoos!

How do we make our Lincoln Nebraska hotel your home away from home? A good place to start is with the many amenities we offer which include: Guest Laundry, Pool & Spa, Business Center, Fitness Center, and Half Basketball Court.

Indoor Swimming Pool
Outdoor Basketball Court
To accommodate the needs of our guests we also provide a complimentary buffet style breakfast as well as an evening manager’s toast we like to call our Social. The point of having our evening Social three nights a week is to encourage our guests to mingle with each other to meet new friends and acquaintances, like someone who might walk your dog while you are at work, or someone you can explore the likes of our college town with.

Complimentary Breakfast Area
Outdoor Gathering Area & Fire Pit

Our Lincoln, Nebraska “Sea of Red” Memorial Stadium is located on campus and holds an ongoing NCAA record of 335 consecutive sellouts. We know temporarily living some place new is hard when you do not know anybody, and this is why we set up the manager’s toast. We advocate that our guests get to know each other to build new friendships and connections while they are away from home.

The other four nights a week our Residence Inn, South Lincoln guests find themselves as regulars at our local Brewery & Grill, Lazlo’s. This is where they enjoy hickory flame grilling of Omaha Steaks and made from scratch appetizers, soups, salads, and desserts all complimented by a house brewed beer.

Lincoln, Nebraska Top 4 Relocation Tips

Moving from one city to another is stressful enough before the moving even begins. We contacted Becky Gallaher a relocation specialist here in Lincoln, Nebraska for some helpful tips.

  1. When packing your belongings you should write on boxes you need opened first “Open Me First” so the movers know to leave that box in a place accessible for you. In those boxes you should have paper products, soap, towels, sheets, a pot and pan, and anything you will need the first day you get to your new home.
  2. Move all of your valuables yourself, and keep a complete inventory of all your home possessions.
  3. Two weeks prior to moving day contact all your house services (telephone, electric, gas, cable, etc.) to set a specific date when they should be disconnected. Contact your healthcare provider for referrals and record transfers.
  4. Check in with your local Century 21 agent and he/she can provide useful local advice and/or referrals.
We have been fortunate to make a home away from home for our guests going on five years now. Some of our guests event remember being the first to have had the pleasure of staying with us, they even still joke about making the first waffle at the Lincoln South  Residence Inn.

Our passion is to provide service so memorable our guests tell stories about it!
