It’s fundamental to any company to provide a product and service that customers love; no one would argue with that. At the Candlewood Suites hotel in Kenosha Wisconsin, we strive to win our guest’s affection daily. How? Our success comes down to getting to know our guests on a personal level, recognizing and fulfilling their needs, and staying true to our brand.

We know our guests love our amenities: complimentary laundry, in suite kitchens, DVD Library, and the Candlewood Cupboard - to name a few. They appreciate being greeted as an IHG Rewards Club member. And, we know they love a kind smile and friendly “hello” as they pass anyone on our team. But offering great amenities and customer service to our guests is just icing on the cake. Getting to know our guests and understanding their individual needs is just as important. Why are they staying with us and what brings them to the area? How can we make them feel more at home during their stay?

As an Extended Stay brand, our guests are often away from home for a variety of reasons: relocation, construction, and disaster displacement – our typical guests don’t come and go quickly. While we do offer nightly accommodations, the majority of our guests are with us for a month, six and sometimes even a year!

With longer guest stays our staff gets the unique opportunity to truly become friends, and even adopted family with our guests. We see them more often than they see their families, and we don’t take this honor lightly. When they walk in weary after a long day of work, we genuinely care. When they’re excited because they've got great life news, we share their excitement with them.

When it comes to their daily lives, the majority of our guests aren’t just passing through Kenosha; they are, in many ways, becoming locals themselves. I’ve seen guests at my grocery store, gym, and even at the dentist office! During their first weeks with us, they’re asking for recommendations; by the time they’re leaving, they’re giving them!

They don’t just visit Kenosha’s iconic Frank’s Diner, they can become regulars if they want. They’re here long enough to take in a band at the Brat Stop on a Friday night, visit our local micro breweries such as Rustic Road Brewery and Public Craft Brewing Co., and run the trails at Petrifying Springs or along Lake Michigan. With a short train ride to Chicago or a drive up l-94 to Milwaukee, there is never “nothing to do.”

Last but not least, I can’t forget to mention that some of our favorite extended stay guests come in the four legged variety! We’re pet friendly here at our Candlewood Suites hotel in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which means that Sparky, Lulu, and Gizmo are welcome and cared for too!

I’ve been fortunate to be a part of the Candlewood family for nearly 4 years. Whether they’re just passing through, or calling us ‘home’ for awhile, our guests are what make the culture of this job and this hotel a unique place to be.
